This programme has been developed for students who are in Secondary 4 and Secondary 5N in a Singapore secondary school. The programme focuses on developing the students' skills in the areas of comprehension, composition and speaking, and fully prepares the students for the O Level examination by providing them with direct exam practice.
The O Level English programme has been written by a team of experienced professionals, all of whom are familiar with the O Level examination content and format, and is designed to develop the students competence and confidence in English language, helping them attain the best results possible in the O Level exam.
By the end of the 'O' Level English programme, we aim for the students to be able to:
  • demonstrate a high level of fluency and accuracy when describing pictures, holding conversations and expressing opinions
  • speak clearly and accurately when expressing their ideas and opinions, and discuss current affairs knowledgably
  • use a variety of reading strategies to tackle reading comprehension
  • infer the meaning of unknown words from context
  • identify relevant points in a text and paraphrase these ideas to create their own summaries
  • take relevant notes and create mind maps that can be used as revision tools
  • write in different genres, for different audiences and on variety of topics, including narratives, argumentative essays, discursive essays, reports formal and informal letters and proposals.
  • write in a variety of styles, including descriptive, argumentative, informal, formal, imaginative, personal, impersonal and factual
  • plan, draft, write, analyse, evaluate, edit and improve upon their writing
  • organize and link written ideas and use a range of literary conventions, develop arguments logically and cohesively, and use a range of sentence structures, idiomatic language and metaphors in writing
  • use a broad, expressive, appropriate and varied vocabulary in both speech and writing
  • use metaphor, idiomatic expressions and figurative language adeptly
