Enriched Learning

“Literacy is the foundation required for higher, better learning.”

Expanding our curriculum beyond the fundamentals, Enriched Learning is the epitome of private preschool education. These are additional classes on top of the standard ECDA curriculum, made possible with a timetable that finely balances Expression (creative activities) and Focus (academic subjects), helping our students enjoy every school day, while learning more.

Forged from over 40 years of academic legacy, our lessons bestow a distinct edge in reading, perspective and presentation skills. It is the key reason why Lorna Whiston has been known for producing the best readers, and most confident speakers.

Lorna Whiston English

After undergoing a foundational English programme in PG, students are able to join our full-fledged Lorna Whiston English lessons from N1. As children develop speech patterns and mouth/tongue movements from a young age, our English classes look to expose our students to the correct sounds, so they can form speech habits that carry into adulthood.

To achieve this, lessons are strictly conducted by native English speakers, with the minimum qualifications of a university degree, or have been certified to teach English not just in Singapore, but internationally (TESOL or CELTA certified).

Lorna Whiston Speech & Drama

Our Speech & Drama programme is a key part of developing those confident-speaking children that Lorna Whiston is famous for. Lessons are fun and engaging, helping students build the confidence they need to develop leadership and social skills needed beyond their early years.

Preschool graduates can also progress to higher levels during their primary school years, and the programme is a pathway to UK universities. Partnered with Trinity College London exams board, students can use this subject for bonus points when applying for UK universities.

Phonemic Awareness Programme

Taught by globally certified, native English speaking teachers

At Lorna Whiston, we build confident communicators from the very start. Every English lesson is taught by a native English speaking teacher who holds either a CELTA or TESOL qualification. Your child hears English as it is meant to be spoken, every single day, from the very first term.

Our English Programme develops speaking, listening, reading and writing through play and purposeful conversation. Children take part in storytelling, show and tell, drama and everyday discussion, all of which build vocabulary, fluency and a genuine love for language.

At the heart of the programme is Phonological and Phonemic Awareness, the true foundation of reading. Children learn to hear, identify and work with the individual sounds inside words through songs, rhymes, games and practical activities. By building strong sound awareness before letters are introduced, we prepare children for early reading success, confident spelling and clear articulation.

Every Child, at Their Own Pace

Group learning gives children the conversation and confidence they need. Individual attention makes sure no child is left behind. Our teachers track each child’s language development closely and adjust their guidance to the stage that child is actually at, so progress is personal even within a shared classroom.
Across 46 years and more than 75,000 alumni, the Lorna Whiston approach to English has produced children who are:
Children learn language best through listening, speaking, and interaction. Our programme, delivered by experienced teachers including native English speakers, gives children added exposure to correct pronunciation, natural rhythm, and rich vocabulary from an early age.

Chinese Cultural studies

Conducted fully in Chinese to promote increased exposure to the language, this programme also helps students learn the meanings and origins behind Chinese traditions and major festivals.

Lessons are conducted in an immersive Chinese Cultural Classroom setting and teach classic Chinese poetry through dance and music. Students will also have the chance to try basic Chinese calligraphy and art.

Fun Fridays

A key part of Lorna Whiston, these unstructured sessions are left freely to the teachers and students to plan.

It is a celebration of school.

Once every two months, Fun Friday turns into an even bigger event, where parents are invited for performances, activities and to have fun with fellow parents. Our past activities have included family zumba lessons, superhero day, parent & child baking contest and even a disco
