Conducted by only the most qualified teachers and celebrated coaches, Lorna Whiston MasterClasses sit at the pinnacle of preschool education. Our mission is to provide young learners access to the highest calibre of teachers among local preschools, becoming our students’ companions in this journey of interest and talent discovery.
Aimed at helping students see music as part of the world we live in, this program exposes them to meaningful pieces from famed artists and hones their talents in the discipline. Students will be introduced to a variety of instruments as they get stage-ready for performances at K2 level.
The programme is led by Mr Michael Kirby, graduate of the famed Guildhall School of Music & Drama in London, and trained under Mr Jack Brymer OBE, dubbed the best clarinettist of his generation. Prior to joining Lorna Whiston, Mr Kirby was a teaching professor at the Conservatorio de Música of Tenerife and performed in some of the most highly regarded orchestras in Europe as the principal clarinet. He was the 1986 U.K. Bromsgrove Young Musician of the year.
Conducted by Ms Jocelyn Salim, our art MasterClass lets children explore their creative tendencies, while being guided by a world-class coach in learning various art creation techniques. The class is aimed at encouraging imagination and creativity, while looking to discover students who have innate talent in the subject.
Ms Salim was the national scholar for art with the DesignSingapore Council, and graduated with both her degree and masters from the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), often ranked the top art school in the United States. She was also a Teaching Artist for children aged 4-7 during her time at RISD.
Our sports MasterClass goes beyond the basic gross motor skills requirement of ECDA preschools. Slowly starting with basic athletic movements such as sprinting, running and jumping, we then introduce students to hand-eye coordinated movements such as catching, throwing and batting. Upper levels also have the chance to be involved in simple rule-based team sports, teaching them very elementary concepts of teamwork and sports strategy.
Our sports MasterClass is helmed by Mr Yurii Odnoroh, who was the former National Coach of Singapore's youth gymnastics team. Mr Odnoroh also previously held roles as the sports teacher in international schools in Canada, Australia and Egypt
The Taekwondo MasterClass is a fully-certified programme with grading exams recognized by the Singapore Taekwondo Federation. Depending on the individual student’s ability, K2 students are expected graduate preschool with a green to red belt.
Classes are led by the celebrated Mr Joon-Pyo Hong, who was the runner-up at the 31st National Taekwondo Championships in Korea. He is also a 2-time champion of the Daedo Taekwondo Open Championships in Singapore, and won 2 other championships held in Jeju, Korea.
